Graywind Motorized Dual Shades review – easy to install room transforming shades
The article is reprinted from: The-Gadgeteer Author: Michael Strange Release date: September 4, 2025 REVIEW – After several years of use, the blinds and curtains in my living room had definitely seen better days. They were in urgent need of replacement. Fortunately, The Gadgeteer received an opportunity to review customizable motorized shades from Graywind, and I eagerly took the chance. Graywind offers a variety of blinds, and I decided to choose the Dual Shade option, believing it would closely resemble my current blind and curtain setup. Let’s see how the Graywind Motorized Dual Shades performed. What is it? The Graywind Motorized Dual Shades are customizable motorized shades that combine a blackout roller shade with a light-filtering, solar, or sheer roller shade. The front and back shades can be operated independently or together, allowing you to easily switch between privacy, light filtering, or sheer. What's included? 4 x motorized shades 2 x fabric wrapped valances 4 x fabric-covered mounting brackets 2 x remote controls 4 x 78.7″ Type-C charging cables 1 x 78.7″ extension cord (optional) 2 x mounting hardware packets Design and features Before getting into the blinds themselves, I want to tell you about the space they will be going into. I have four windows in my living room, two facing north and two facing west. The windows are very close together, so I decided to go with two larger blinds instead of four smaller ones. I thought that this would look better and make the install easier. Because each blind is covering two windows, I had to opt for the outside mount. The final measurements for the two blinds were 71 1/4″ wide x 58 1/2″ long. The blinds arrived well packaged, with each set of blinds and accessories in its own box. When you order the blinds, you can customize everything, including size, fabric type, and color. Below is a list of all of the available configurations. Front shade fabric Back shade fabric Front shade hem bar Back shade hem bar Type of mount (inside or outside) Custom width up to 97″ Custom height up to 100″ Type of motor: BLE RF: basic remote and app control, Zigbee Alexa motor: directly works with 7 Alexa devices, Matter: allows you to control your home devices via Alexa, Google, HomeKit, or SmartThings at the same time. Remote control 15-channel remote: wall mount or handheld For my dual shades, I chose the light grey 100% blackout front shade and a sheer white back shade. If you are unsure about which fabrics to choose, Graywind offers fabric swatches that you can order for assistance. Any swatches you purchase will be fully refunded upon your order. The fabric on both shades is very nice, and the blinds seem extremely well-made. The blackout shade has a fabric covering on both sides and is 100% light-blocking. The sheer white shade is a light filtering shade that is considered 20% blackout. The mounting brackets and the valance are also fabric-wrapped, which is a nice touch. You can also select the type of hem bars you want on each shade. For the front blackout shade, I chose the designed weighted bar in white, and for the back shade, I went with a fabric-wrapped hem bar. The shades are powered by a rechargeable motor. Each motor has a Type-C charging port, an LED indicator light, a reset button, and two small signal receivers. There are 3 different motor options to choose from. I decided to go with the BLE RF motor. This allows me to control the blinds with either the remote control or the Graywind app. I also ordered the BLE hub. The Hub adds voice control (Alexa or Google Home) to the blinds. It also enables me to set timers and automations via the Graywind app. Graywind recommends charging the blinds for over 8 hours before first use. So before installing them, I charged all four blinds overnight. Once fully charged, the blinds can be used for 3-6 months depending on the frequency of use. To make charging the blinds easier, Graywind includes a separate long (78.7″) charging cable for each blind. Installation Installing the Graywind Motorized Dual Shades is easy. The user manual provides detailed instructions, or you can watch the installation video on Graywinds’ YouTube channel. As I mentioned earlier, I chose to go with the outside mounting option. All I had to do was install the sturdy metal brackets and then pop each blind into place. The fabric wrapped valance clips onto the top of the brackets and is held in place via small magnets at either end. Because the blinds are preprogrammed at the factory, I was able to control them with the remote without any further setup required. Controlling your Graywinds dual shades Once installed, there are three ways you can control the blinds. You can use the remote control, the Graywind app, or a voice assistant (Alexa or Google Home). Click to enlarge The remote control is a specially designed 15-channel timing remote that’s able to separately & group control up to 15 smart shades. The small triangular remote can be used inside the silicone holder or mounted to a wall using the included hardware. The backlit display shows the time, date, and day of the week as well as the channel number for each blind. The remote is also fully programmable. Below is a list of its functions: Clock setting Timing setting Set favorite position Adjust running speed Delete the top and bottom limit position Set the top and bottom limit positions The blinds correspond with channels on the remote. The odd-numbered channels, 1 & 3, control the darkening shades, while the even-numbered channels, 2 & 4, control the sheer back shades. Programming the shades via the remote is a tedious process that requires multiple steps and button presses, which is not ideal. This is where the Graywind app comes into play. The app not only allows you to control the blinds, but it can also be used to program many of the same functions. The app makes programming the blinds easier and faster, especially when it comes to setting up automations and timers, so IMO it’s the perfect companion to the remote. On the positive side, the manual does an excellent job of explaining how to use the remote to program the shades. Overall, I found the app easy to use, and it has a clean and easy-to-navigate interface. My favorite feature in the app is the window animation, which lets you control each blind. It allows you to set the blind to whatever position you want simply by dragging an arrow icon up and down with your finger. And the small window blind animates to mimic the movement. Below are a few screenshots from the app. Click to enlarge The shades can also be controlled via a voice assistant using Alexa or Google Home. However, you will need to purchase the BLE hub separately. Setting up the Hub is relatively straightforward, although I encountered an issue when trying to set up timers for the blinds to open and close. I kept getting a gateway error and couldn’t figure out why. After several minutes poking around the app, I found that I needed to go into the BLE Hub settings and set the blinds up in the BLE Sub-Device menu. Once I did that, I was able to set my timers without issue. Please don’t ask me how I figured it out because I still have no idea. The problem here is that there were no instructions to reference, and I was lucky to have stumbled upon the solution. It would be helpful to have more information in the Hub’s user manual beyond just basic setup. As far as Alexa goes, it was easy to link my Amazon account to the Graywind app. From there, I was able to use Alexa to control the blinds. It works well, but since I already have the remote and the app, I doubt I would use it that often. Performance I love my Graywind Dual Shades! They’re easy to install, well-made, look great, and the blinds operate smoothly and quietly. Since installing them, they have worked perfectly. They absolutely transformed my living room in the best way possible. Click to enlarge One of my favorite features is the ability to lower the sheer shades while opening the darkening shades, filling the room with a lot of natural light – something that wasn’t possible with my previous setup. And because the sheer blinds act similarly to a two-way mirror, I don't lose any privacy. I can see outside, but passersby can’t see in. And since my windows face different directions, I like being able to remotely change the position of the darkening shades throughout the day as the light changes. No more physically opening and closing blinds or pulling blackout curtains. My other favorite feature is the ability to set automations and timers with the Graywind app. Currently, I have the darkening shades set to open at 7:45am and close at 12:30am, and they have performed flawlessly each time. And you can even set up an automation to have the blinds open or close based on weather changes. I have yet to try that one out. Final thoughts The Graywind Motorized Dual Shades are fabulous. I was surprised by how much they transformed my living room. If you’re in the market for customizable shades, visit the Graywind website to create your own room-transforming shades. You can thank me later. What I like about the Graywind Motorized Dual Shades Easy to install Well made Easy to use Look great Multiple ways to control the blinds – remote control, Graywind app, and Alexa Being able to control each blind independently Ability to set timers and automations What needs to be improved? The article is reprinted from: Dream of Home Author: SARAH MACKLIN Release date: August 4, 2024 AD – these blinds were gifted in return for an honest review. Our home office has had a lot of a makeover since we first moved into our house in August 2020. The blue carpets (that matched the blue blinds) really did the shelving no favours, and all that wood. The only photo I have of the true blue of the carpet and the blue blinds This estate agent photo makes the room look smaller than it is, but you get the vibe. I love all the storage we have in here, including built-in filing cabinets, cupboards and shelves. But I knew I wanted to do something with the shelves, and do something I did. In 2021, I painted all the built-in shelves black. At the time I felt like it was a brave move, but it feels so right in the room and even 4 years later, there’s no chips or scratches. It took far more work than I ever imagined, hours and hours. It needed four coats because I was going such a dark colour, and my hands had blisters, my soul was crying and it probably took me 24 hours (spread over a couple of weeks) to finish it. But this was the finished result: But what was still the one thing that let the office down? Those blue blinds. So we ripped them out a few weeks ago with no replacement in mind, and that was when Graywind messaged me, like an angel sent down from heaven. I've recently set up my own copywriting and content strategy business, so I needed my home office to have the perfect set up. We were unsure of colours and styles, so we ordered a collection of samples first, which showed us the colour, texture, and shading level before we committed to ordering. I chose their electric day and night blinds, in the colour white. I didn't need a blind that offered complete darkness, but one that could block out the sun in the afternoon while still letting light in, and these were absolutely perfect for that. We took all the necessary measurements and also decided on some extras (mount, motor, remote control, etc). Because these blinds are motorised, there was a lot of options, such as an Alexa motor (powered by Alexa), a smart motor (works with Alexa and/or Google), a hardwired motor or a chargeable battery motor. With it being a home office, we chose the battery motor which needs to be charged approximately every six months. Installing our Graywind motorised blinds The packaging was perfect and everything was really neatly packed and protected. We took the blinds and all the accessories out of the box, and quickly realised the blind didn't quite fit. Not Graywind's fault – we hadn't taken into account the window sealant/edging that jutted out about 1.5cm on each side. Plus the walls were bowed which also didn't help! So the job got a little messier than anticipated. We screwed the mounting brackets directly into the window frame, which was the un-messy part. That was when we realised the blind didn't fit. So cue the scraper to chip away at some of the walls and the window edging. The remote control that came with our Graywind blinds While the window now needs some filling and repainting, I couldn’t be happier with how the blinds fit and look. You can slightly see in the top left of the window frame where we've had to chip away and the paint and some of the wall. I love how subtle they are. You almost don't really notice them and they really blend in, even when they’re down. Setting up and programming our motorised blinds The blinds came with a really handy booklet that explained how to programme the blinds, which I definitely needed. First, after you've installed the blinds, you need to charge the motor/battery for around 8 hours. When I realised the blinds need charging, I started to wonder whether we'd made a mistake. I didn't want a cable hanging across the room for hours every day. But actually, they need charging about once every few months! This is great news and means we can charge them overnight so they’re ready to go as normal the next morning. I'm so glad we did go for the motorised blinds, as I hadn't realised all their features. Not only can you use the button to lift the blinds up and down as needed, but you can actually set them on a timer, so if the sun shines through at the same time every day or you’re going on holiday, your blinds will go up and down to the times you set. The blinds are advertised as‘80%’blackout. I would argue that they are less than this, but I didn't need the blackout feature for my office, when I’ll be working in there in the day and need as much light as I can get. So to review, I would absolutely purchase blinds from Graywind again. The packaging and delivery were excellent, the blinds themselves are exactly what we were after, and the fact they're motorised is a bonus.

At night we often need a good blackout window shade style, so as to provide a comfortable and private sleeping environment; and in the daytime outside the light is too high, we want to prevent glare at the same time to meet the needs of the work of the need for illumination, this time ordinary single-layer roller shades can not be satisfied at the same time both daytime and nighttime forms of blackout requirements. This article is reprinted from the review of gb on Amazon. 🖱️Click here for the original article The customer shared a detailed review of their experience with Graywind's shades. They initially bought one test shade before purchasing 15 more Zigbee light filtering and blackout shades in white, along with a 16-channel remote due to the quality and integrity of Graywind's products. The review covers aspects like fabric / material quality, band alignment, lighting differences between light filtering and blackout shades, battery life, motor sound, installation process, remote control satisfaction, SmartThings compatibility, packaging quality, and commendable customer service from Graywind. Overall, the reviewer highly recommends Graywind for their great zebra shades and excellent customer service. Purchase information : Graywind Motorized Zebra Sheer Blinds ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2021 Color: Classic - White Material Type: 1 - Rechargeable Smart Motor 🖱️Click here for product I started out with one test shade before committing (like many others, I was scared about the risk and return difficulty if it hadn't worked out). I loved the quality and Graywind's integrity so much, I ended up buying 15 more Zigbee (ZF) light filtering and blackout shades in white, and the 15-channel remote. Both types of these zebra shades look great and work wonderfully. Highly recommend!! Long version: FABRIC / MATERIAL Get the swatches!! It' ll help you very much. Before finding Graywind, I had ordered fabric swatches from the major brands at our home improvement stores and from a couple online vendors. Those "fabrics" all felt like rigid paper, they were fraying at the edges, and didn' t seem like they would last with everyday up/downs and direct sunlight over the years. Graywind' s fabric samples, however, were impressive. The materials are flexible, don' t crease easily, and didn't show signs of easy fraying. The solid bands feel smooth and thin (but durable) for the light filtering, and smooth and thick for the blackout. The sheer parts feel a bit more rigid than your typical soft sheer curtains, so they may crease if someone/thing keeps folding it repeatedly. After 6 months, I haven' t had any issues with the fabric fraying on the shades that completely open/close or partially open. ALIGNMENT OF BANDS For the most part, Graywind did a great job at band alignment between windows (this was a concern I had about buying zebra-style shades). The only caveat was that they would align the bands for only same-length shades. So if you have different sized windows side-by-side in the same room, be aware there may be a misaligned outlier (maybe try asking if they could make them all match).Alignment in the sense that you can superimpose the darkening bands over each other, was also pretty spot-on—with the exception of 2 (out of 16) being about 10 degrees crooked. One thing that was kind of a bummer is that the blocking bands on light filtering shades are much smaller than the blocking bands on the blackouts (e.g. 3" vs 4.5"). So if the difference will bother you, keep that in mind. LIGHTING For some rooms, I got the blackout shades in the rooms to block out light or to avoid our shadows from being seen if someone were standing outside at night. For the rest, I got the light filtering shades because I didn't want to lose brightness but wanted privacy from the creepy neighbor (fyi if you see your shadow on these shades at night, people outside will also be able to see it if that's a concern for you). I used a light meter to test the lighting changes with direct sunlight in both shade types while standing 6ft from the front of the shade. With the light filtering shades the lux readings were 199 closed (60% bright), 247 bands aligned (75% bright), 331 fully open (100% bright). With the blackout shades (different room/sun entry) the lux readings were 43 closed (0.3% bright), 5037 bands aligned (39% bright), and 12949 fully open (100% bright). BATTERY / MOTOR / SOUND I've had my shades for about 6 months and so far only 1 needed a battery charge at the 4 month mark. The others that fully open/close every day will also be due for a charge soon, so it's definitely within the 3-6 months window they mention. In their manual, they list the life of the motor to last about 14,000 runs (1 run = fully up and down once), putting it around 38yrs (pretty good if true). As for the sound of the motor, I tested with the sound meter 2ft and 6ft away. The readings were 44dB and 40dB respectively, which is kind of like the hum of a portable heater/fan. It's not too bad, but as a light sleeper, they do wake me up if I sleep up to their programed opening times. INSTALLATION & 16-CH Remote The installation is pretty straight-forward, and love the mounting brackets that come with this kit! It's a push and lock mechanism and they hide very well. The valence/shade could be easily taken down, and shifted left or right to center it. My shades are outside mount on the window casing so there is about a 1" gap from the side. However, the increased width of the shades still maintains privacy. The remote control is a sexy sleek push-button type, which I am VERY happy with. (I saw in another review that someone had a touch-remote. Touch remotes, in my experience, are terrible for operating motors because they are either too sensitive or not sensitive enough—making it impossible to fine-tune your settings.) So YAY Graywind for sticking with push-button remotes! SMARTTHINGS (AEOTEC HUB) I can also confirm that the ZF motors can be controlled via SmartThings. Thank you so much to the reviewer on Feb 27 2021—If it wasn't for their confirmation, I probably wouldn't have gone with these shades because I was looking specifically for shades/motors that were compatible with my Hub. With the app, you can schedule the times they open or close, and the percentage of openness (between 0-100%). PACKAGING The shades were always packaged very well with flex foam and plastic to protect from the elements and delivery-person abuse. The delivery folks in my area are rough with packages, so I was very grateful for the extra care Graywind puts in each shipment. COMPANY / CUSTOMER SERVICE Graywind is one of those rare companies with integrity, and has shown to care about their customer's satisfaction and loyalty. Their response times to inquiries has always been under 24hrs. At one point, I had an issue with 3 of my motors not functioning properly, and they were quick to help me resolve the issue, and then check up on me about it. They sometimes send short videos to help show what you need to do, or will walk you through the troubleshoot. Overall, Graywind has great customer service, makes great zebra shades and I would highly recommend!

This article is reprinted from the review of William J Brown on Amazon. 🖱️ Click here for the original article William J Brown moved into a new home in Colorado and needed window treatments to block out the intense sun while maintaining a modern look. They chose Graywind's blinds because of their higher quality, smart home tech, better pricing, and faster shipping. Graywind offered a sleek 5% see-through black shade that complemented their modern taste and large windows. William found Graywind's buying experience on Amazon far better than Blinds.com, with a more straightforward process. Graywind's everyday pricing was competitive, especially considering the smart home integrations included. The installation was manageable, and the Graywind app setup and Alexa integration were user-friendly. Overall, William highly recommends Graywind over traditional window treatment companies for their superior product, pricing, and efficiency. Purchase information : Graywind Motorized Solar Shades ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2023 Color: Solar - 5% Black Material Type: 2 - Hardwired Smart Motor 🖱️ Click here for product CONTEXT: We moved into a brand new home that required a lot of window treatments. We live in Colorado, so its sunny year around. Initially, I ordered roller shades from Blinds.com for 4 bedrooms (around $17k in total). I got either hardwired or solar powered shades for all of those bedrooms. I looked at these shades on Amazon and thought i'd give it a try. OVERALL: I definitely recommend going with Graywind over Blinds.com or three-day blinds or whatever for multiple reasons. This is a higher quality product (includes smart home tech) with a better price tag and faster shipping times. USE CASE: I needed window treatments to block out some of the intense sun that cascades into our south-facing living room that receives a lot of direct sunlight year around. The window/view is awesome, so I didn't want to black it out completely. I also wanted something that would go unnoticed at night/evening/morning when the shades were completely rolled up. I have included some photos of the results: no shades, partial shades, and full shades. BUYING EXPERIENCE: My experience using Amazon compared to using Blinds.com (as in entering the measurement details) was FAR better. The blinds.com user experience is clumsy and really not straight forward. Conversely, the buying process and user interface simply using Amazon was not pretty, but super functional and straightforward. SELECTION: Graywind doesn't have as many color variants as some of the competitors, but I actually thought that was easier/better. I don't need 70+ colors to choose from ... I opted for 5% see through black, which in theory ("black shades") sounds bad, but its not at all, it's a modern good look in my mind. Our taste is "modern" and we have enormous windows. I read a blog post that, ironically, you can see through black shades way better than white ones. White roller shades can look washed out and a bit cheap. I found this to be totally true. These shades offer light protection and blocking without totally ruining the view and/or vibe of the room. PRICE/VALUE: Graywind has better everyday prices than Blinds.com. I quoted what I wanted on Blinds.com and Graywind and they were within 10% of each other WHEN Blinds.com was running a promotion. Graywind has better "everyday" pricing ... which I really liked. I didn't feel the need to wait for some promotion like with the other folks. If you go with a Blinds.com and don't use a promotion then you will be paying at least 30-40% more, which is a lot of more money. PRICE/VALUE SMART HOME INTEGRATIONS: If you go with blinds.com they really really jack up the price when you start adding smart home bridges/integrations and you are left with the Somfy system (which totally sucks and is not the most up-to-date smart home tech). Most of these roller shades offered by graywind automatically come with smart home tech, which is amazing value. SHIPPING/TIMING: Graywind is cutting and manufacturing from China. But everything processed and shipped about a week faster than Blinds.com. Here is my timing: Ordered on 11.4, Graywind reached out to confirm all details on 11.6. manufactured and shipped out order by 11.11, received at my house via Fedex on 11.16. In total the process was 12 calendar days, super fast compared to my experience with blinds.com which took up to three calendar weeks when I ordered this summer. PHYSICAL INSTALL: I am pretty handy so the install was not terrible. I put these up myself (1 person), three units in total in about 2 hours. I used the hardware but opted for my own screws/fasteners to mount directly into the window framing. REMOTE PROGRAMMING: I had to adjust the lower limits on these to not hit molding. That was sort of annoying all around because you have to press the button(s) exactly specifically as the instructions indicate. This was somewhat frustrating but also I have had similarly frustrating experiences with blinds.com roller shades and the somfy systems. Note: I didn't account for molding at the bottom of the windows so that is why the shades were going "too low", that was something I overlooked, not something Graywind did wrong. GRAYWIND APP SETUP: Super duper easy and straight forward. Better than most in the smart home game. ALEXA INTEGRATION: Easy because of how reliable the Graywind app is. I pretty much never write these reviews because I buy so much stuff on Amazon. However, I felt motivated and emboldened to share my opinion because these guys were so much better (in all measurable ways) relative to blinds.coms and three day blinds - which I have both used in the past and view as like the "comcast" of window treatment companies, which is why I was excited to find the Graywind solution on Amazon and even more excited when the shades ended up being better all around. I am sure there are little things here or there that Graywind can do better, but compared to the old "big guys"/ legacy vendors/options out there, Graywind is significantly better in all ways (superior product at a lower price and ships faster). Cheers!
