In attempting to get better sleep, one of the ideas we had was to replace our existing blinds with a blackout solution. While we were at it, upgrading to smart motorized window treatments seemed like a great idea. Serendipitously, Graywind reached out with some solutions that piqued our interest. After looking at their offerings, we opted to install three Graywind Motorized Blackout Roman Shades in Mattelasse White, along with a Graywind Rechargeable Motorized Blackout Curtain in Mocha Beige.

Installation and Setup
Graywind makes everything to order. The Roman shades arrived in custom dimensions, averaging 52âŗ wide by 62âŗ tall, each equipped with a Matter Smart Motor. Options included:
- Inside mount design
- White light blockers to seal gaps
- Fabric-wrapped hem bar for a clean finish
- 78âŗ motor extension cord for flexible placement
The blackout curtain was much larger, 93âŗ wide by 82âŗ tall, side-mounted with blackout lining, a matching valance, and a right-side motor. It also included a motor extension cord to simplify charging.
Physical setup was straightforward for the most part. We did interior mounts on the shades and exterior mounting for the curtains. Everything is supported by brackets, so installation is simply a matter of measuring and using the correct fastening methods (we were anchoring into concrete block). Both the Roman shades and the curtains fit perfectly, with the curtain track having the overlap we were looking for to block most of the light. All motors are rechargeable, and while Graywind offers solar panel charging, we opted to charge them in place as needed using extended cabling.
Remote Control and Programming
By choosing the Matter Smart Motor, we opened up the possibilities for app control using products from Apple, Google, and Amazon. It lets you set up automations like âclose at sunsetâ and âopen at 7 a.m.â
The curtain and shades shipped with a remote control, giving us a total of four. What we did was program the curtain for channel 1, each blind independently on channels 3, 4, and 5, and finally, we added the three shades to channel 2 as a group. That let us mount the remotes on the wall next to each blind but also control all three simultaneously as desired.

Performance
When it comes to blocking light, both the curtain and blinds deliver . The Roman shades with light blockers leave almost no light bleed, and the curtain seals off the wide window wall entirely. Together, they transformed the room into a true blackout environmentâperfect for sleep or anyone sensitive to early morning sun. Put these in your theater room, and you can control the light even in the middle of the day.
The motors are impressively quiet. Even the large curtain glides open and shut with just a soft hum. Charging the curtain is super-simple since the battery disconnects easily from the vertical motor.

Charging the roman shades isnât terribly difficult; however, when using the light blockers, you eliminate most of your access, so the shades will need to be open in order to access the USB-C port.
Style and Finish
Graywind nails the design of these products. The Matelasse White Roman shades bring a soft, textured look that complements most bedroom dÊcor, while the Mocha Beige curtain adds a warm contrast. The blackout lining and fabric quality feel premium, and the optional valance gives the curtain a built-in, finished appearance.

Small touches like the fabric-wrapped hem bar on the shades show Graywindâs attention to detail. These arenât just functional productsâthey elevate the overall look of the room.

The only suggestion weâd make is to consider adding something to the rear of the roman shades. From the outside, you can see the roller mechanism. Itâs not the most finished look.

Price and Value
Pricing varies depending on size and options, but hereâs how our configuration broke down:
Graywind Rechargeable Smart Curtain â Blackout Series (Mocha Beige)
- Base Price: $329
- Custom Sizing: $108 (width + height)
- Valance: $20
- Back Lining: $19
- Motor Extension Cord: $2
- Total: ~$478
Graywind Motorized Roman Shades â Blackout Series (Matelasse White)
- Base Price: $169 each
- Custom Sizing: $155 (width + height)
- Matter Smart Motor: $75
- Remote control: $19
- Magnetic charging & extension cords: $7
- Hem Bar Upgrade: $10
- Light Blockers: $69
- Total per shade: ~$504
For three shades plus one curtain, the complete project landed close to $2,000. Thatâs competitive with other custom motorized window solutions, especially considering the Matter integration, premium fabrics, and blackout effectiveness. You can certainly drop that price if you have smaller windows (ours are rather large) and if you donât require all of the options we selected.
Final Thoughts
The Graywind Motorized Roman Shades and Blackout Curtain are an excellent solution for a bedroom upgrade. Together, they combine quiet automation and premium style. If you want to keep the room dark, they also provide impressive blackout performance.
For smart functionality out of the box, go with the Matter motor option on the shadesâit integrates seamlessly and uses a device you likely already have as a hub. For the curtain, consider budgeting for a smart bridge or remote to unlock its full potential.
The bottom line is that if you value better sleep, a polished look, and the convenience of smart automation, Graywindâs smart blinds and curtains deliver an excellent balance of design, function, and price.
